A Tribute to Georgia's Heroes

Mount Paran Church of God in Atlanta will host Governor Sonny Perdue as he leads the state’s official service to honor all Georgia service members who have given their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 11:00 AM and is open to the public. Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré (Retired), former commander of the U.S. First Army at Fort Gillem, Georgia, will deliver a keynote address. He is best known as commander of Joint Task Force Katrina and was responsible for coordination of the military relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina-affected areas across the Gulf Coast.

Attending will be the families of Georgia service members who gave their lives in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. During the service, a service member from each branch of the military will read the names of Georgia’s fallen service members, and a photographic tribute to the soldiers will be shown.

The State of Georgia hosts this annual Memorial Day Service to pay tribute to and honor all of Georgia’s fallen service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in the protection of our freedom.
